Aim #2: How can we use the RWT story cubes we created to design text-dependent questions and synthesize our understanding of Laurie Halse Anderson’s novel, Speak?"
Word of the Day:
Text-Dependent Questions (TDQ) : Specifically asks a question that can only be answered by referring explicitly back to the text being read. It does not rely on any particular background information extraneous to the text nor depend on students having other experiences or knowledge; instead it privileges the text itself and what students can extract from what is before them.
Example: “My social studies teacher is Mr. Neck, the same guy who growled at me to sit down in the auditorium. he remembers me fondly. ‘I got my eye on you. Front row.’”
